The Duisburg Zoo is one of the largest zoos in North Rhine-Westphalia.

One of the most famous compound
of the zoo is the Air Berlin Koala House. It was founded in 1994 and represents the australian wildlife with the koalas. The Duisburg Zoo is one of the few zoos, that can hold koalas.

Another highlight is the dolphinarium, which exists since 1965. It was the first dolphinarium in a German zoo
.

The equatorium was the largest monkey house in the world and sticked out because of its size, but also with a variety of different animal species, including not only apes, but also armadillos, turtles, sloths and more.

The elephant and giraffe house is directly located next to one another and next to one of the visitors highlights: Katta-Island.
